The Incident

In the not-so-distant past, Kali found an odd book in the library that was locked shut. Thinking it strange, she took it to the black mage's guild in Ul'dah, who helped her unlock it under one condition - she study with them and learn the void arts. Believing the appearance of such an important tome was a sign from her ancestors, Kali agreed and began her studies.One night, while studying in said grimoire, she found herself drawn to one particular spell. No matter how many times she turned away from the page, whenever she returned to her studies, the spell was on the open page. After weeks of fighting to ignore it, she gave in and decided to read it aloud - little did she know her entire life was about to change.

Born, as K'ali Kocat to a small offshoot branch of the Hipparion Tribe in the nation of Corvos, Kali had a childhood formed of high expectations.At the time of her birth, it was seen as an auspicious omen that her hair was of two different colors. And so, she was named after her grandmother, the tribe's Elder Lorekeeper, and raised to follow in her footsteps. Upon her grandmother's death, her ashes were made into a crystal earring that Kali never removes, and she carries the history of her tribe, and her grandmother's legacy, in her heart.Trained in the ancient tradition of the bardic arts to pass down histories to future generations, she developed great respect for the past and what we can learn from it - believing that it's more important to fail and learn from our mistakes than to never try at all.While K'ali has a great respect for tradition she, like many of the younger generation, doesn't feel beholden to many of the old ways of the tribe. Love is love ♥

In the year leading up to the Battle of Carteneau, as a significant number of tribe members were joining the fight against the Garlean Empire, Kali was destined for a different fate. In order to protect the tribe's history, she was sent northward - both for her own safety, and to act as a precursor in the effort to scout for a new homeland.Ultimately, when Bahamut broke free from his prison and laid waste to great swaths of Eorzea, his fire reached all the way into the isolated Sagoli. sending the tribe to flee into cliffs.In the ensuing chaos, many were lost; to this day Kali does not know who of her family survived.
